Fils d’un père musicien, il est très vite initié à la musique et au monde des arts de la scène. Après avoir essayé le piano, ses parents lui offrent une batterie pour son dixième anniversaire. C’est le coup de foudre. Il participe durant sa scolarité à plusieurs projets organisés par son école, comme des arrangements de pièces de théâtre et des représentations. Il s’inscrit au gymnase ou il optera pour l’option spécifique musique, ce qui lui permettra d’étoffer ses connaissances musicales et sa soif d’expériences. Très impliqué dans toutes sortes de projets musicaux, il rejoint également son père dans une formation de reprises rock/pop/blues à l’âge de 16 ans. Déterminé à faire de sa passion son métier, il s’inscrit aux examens d’admission de la Hochschule für Musik Basel / Jazzcampus, et échoue avec brio. Il n’abandonnera pas et prendra une année pour combler son retard, à raison de 7-8 heures d’instrument par jour. Il réussira les examens d’entrée dans trois des hautes écoles de musique de Suisse, et portera son choix sur la Hochschule für Musik Basel / Jazzcampus. Il y étudiera durant 5 années, auprès de professeurs comme Vic Hardt, Julio Barreto, Jeff Ballard, Christian Lillinger, Gregory Hutchinson, Jorge Rossy, Lester Menezes, Adrian Mears, Mathieu Michel ou encore Larry Grenadier, et prendra part à de multiples projets divers et variés, du big band à la performance solistique. Il termine ses études en septembre 2021, diplômé d’un Bachelor of Arts in Music FHNW et d’un Master of Arts in Music FHNW / Musicpedagogy, tous deux obtenus avec les félicitations du jury. Son premier album intitulé « Healing Process » sort en 2020, mélange de toutes ses influences, de Phil Collins à Kamasi Washington en passant par Christian Scott. Actuellement, Nicolas Safjan est aperçu sur scène aux côtés de Giulia Dabalà, James Iwa, Arbajo Jairus, Gerah, ainsi qu’avec ses projets qui paraissent sous son propre nom. Als Sohn eines Musiker-Vaters wird er sehr schnell mit der Musik und der Welt der darstellenden Künste vertraut gemacht. Nachdem er das Klavierspiel ausprobiert hat, schenken ihm seine Eltern zu seinem zehnten Geburtstag ein Schlagzeug. Es ist Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Während seiner Schulzeit nimmt er an mehreren Projekten teil, die von seiner Schule organisiert werden, wie z. B. Arrangements für Theaterstücke und Aufführungen. Er beginnt seine Ausbildung am Gymnasium, wo er sich für das Schwerpunktfach Musik entscheidet, wodurch er sein musikalisches Wissen und seine Experimentierfreude weiter ausbauen kann. Er ist in viele verschiedene Musikprojekte involviert und schließt sich mit 16 Jahren seinem Vater in einer Rock-/Pop-/Blues-Coverband an. Entschlossen, seine Leidenschaft zum Beruf zu machen, meldete er sich für die Aufnahmeprüfung an der Hochschule für Musik Basel / Jazzcampus an und scheiterte mit Bravour. Er gab nicht auf und nahm sich ein Jahr Zeit, um seinen Rückstand aufzuholen, wobei er täglich 7-8 Stunden auf dem Instrument saß. Er bestand die Aufnahmeprüfungen an drei der Schweizer Musikhochschulen und entschied sich für die Hochschule für Musik Basel / Jazzcampus. Dort studierte er fünf Jahre lang bei Professoren wie Vic Hardt, Julio Barreto, Jeff Ballard, Christian Lillinger, Gregory Hutchinson, Jorge Rossy, Lester Menezes, Adrian Mears, Mathieu Michel und Larry Grenadier und nahm an einer Vielzahl von Projekten teil, von der Big Band bis hin zu solistischen Auftritten. Im September 2021 schliesst er sein Studium mit einem Bachelor of Arts in Musik FHNW und einem Master of Arts in Musikpädagogik FHNW ab, die er beide mit Auszeichnung bestanden hat. Sein erstes Album mit dem Titel "Healing Process" wurde 2020 veröffentlicht und ist eine Mischung aus all seinen Einflüssen, von Phil Collins über Kamasi Washington bis hin zu Christian Scott. Derzeit ist Nicolas Safjan auf der Bühne an der Seite von Giuila Dabalà, James Iwa, Arbajo Jairus, Gerah sowie mit seinen Projekten, die unter seinem eigenen Namen erscheinen, zu sehen.
